It’s a new year, an amazing opportunity to set fresh goals, change direction, and with Ruba Ali’s brand-new program in the Sweat app, 2025 is your time to Thrive.
So often when it comes to our fitness routines, we let our ideas of success and progress be guided by physical markers. How much weight can I lift? How far can I run? How does my body look?
While chasing physical or performance goals can be incredibly empowering, it’s all too easy to forget incredible power exercise has to change our energy and how we feel within our own bodies and minds.
For Sweat’s newest trainer Ruba Ali, her relationship with fitness took her on a journey from heavy lifting to intense workouts, before she knew deep down that something needed to change. Despite looking the part and inspiring people across the globe, Ruba felt like she was just surviving when she wanted to be thriving.
Her new Sweat program Thrive is based on how she trains now after taking a break to recharge and reconnect with herself, and to let how she feels be the central pillar of her health and fitness philosophy.
“I felt drained, exhausted and unpassionate,” she says, speaking about the workout routine that led her to burn out. “When I started following a more flexible program, I felt like myself again. I felt energised, passionate and excited to get moving. The difference was like night and day.”
And now, she wants to share her holistic training approach with the world and help more women discover what it really feels like to Thrive in body and mind. This is your moment to rewrite your fitness story.
What does Thrive with Ruba involve?
There are three functional strength training workouts each week - Functional Full Body, Legs & Glutes, and Upper Body, Core & HIIT - structured with a mix of supersets, trisets, circuits and finishers. All you need to get started is a bench, step, dumbbells, skipping rope and a resistance band.
Each workout takes 20-40 minutes, making them easy to fit into your lifestyle, and they include elements of functional strength, HIIT, mobility and cardio training to help you level up your fitness and confidence from every angle.
Alongside your weekly workouts, Ruba encourages 1-2 walks in nature and any personal wellbeing rituals that recharge and elevate your energy. This could be meditation, journalling, yoga, connecting with community, prayer - whatever resonates the most with you.
Move your body, shift your energy
Although Ruba can’t wait to see you challenge yourself in each workout to build your strength, power, fitness and mobility, what she ultimately cares about the most is how your routine makes you feel and how it elevates the rest of your life.
“When you put yourself first, you can feel better and give that new energy to everyone around you. Energy is contagious. When you can show up as a better mum, friend, wife or leader, the people around you feel that and transfer that to the people around them. It’s a ripple effect.”
“When you can wake up in the morning and you take care of yourself, even if it’s just a 20-minute workout, you're not only doing something for you but for everyone around you. I actually think it’s a very selfless thing to do because you’re thinking of others by taking care of yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup, you have to start by filling your own cup.”
One workout at a time, one walk in nature at a time, one self-care practice at a time, you reconnect with yourself, tune out the world and tune into you.
